Overview of TN Visa Program

The TN visa (Trade NAFTA, now USMCA) allows citizens of Canada and Mexico to work in the United States in pre-arranged professional-level jobs under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), formerly NAFTA.

Unlike H-2A/H-2B, TN is not employer-sponsored (no labor certification or cap) and is limited to specific professions listed in USMCA Appendix 2 (formerly NAFTA Chapter 16).

• Duration: Up to 3 years, renewable indefinitely in 3-year increments

• Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/credentials (varies by profession)

• No dual intent: Cannot be used to pursue permanent residency directly
